JOB SUMMARY
The Paramedic assesses, plans, implements, and collaborates with
other providers to ensure excellence in patient and family care
during pre-hospital emergency care and during transportation to a
medical facility. The Paramedic may also assist with medical
treatment of patients in other departments of CCH under the
direction of the MD and RN within their scope of practice as
defined by the State of Wyoming.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs medical and trauma patient assessments, establishes care
priorities, and renders necessary and appropriate care within
policy, protocol, and scope of practice.
Assesses, plans, implements, and collaborates with other providers
to ensure excellence in patient and family care during pre-hospital
emergency care and during transportation to a medical facility.
Works in coordination with EMS Shift Supervisor and/or Lead Medic
to complete EMS staff duties and assignments.
Accurately performs complete population specific patient
assessments, establishes care priorities, and renders appropriate
care.
Accurately documents assessments and treatments of patients using
the WATRS reporting system in accordance with Wyoming State
statutes.
Provides service excellence to all customers.
Operates vehicles in accordance with federal, state, and local laws
and departmental policies. Must meet the requirements of and
maintain a driving record that allows for coverage by CCH's vehicle
insurance carrier.
Assures that ambulances and station are maintained, clean stocked,
and ready for service at all times. Performs routine and minor
vehicle and station maintenance to ensure safe and proper
function.
When requested during surges in patient volumes, assist with
medical treatment of patients in other departments of CCH under the
direction of the MD and RN within their scope of practice as
defined by the State of Wyoming.
Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and participates in cost
containment and economical utilization of supplies and
equipment.
Contributes to CCH and EMS department operations through consistent
involvement in duty shifts, special events, educational
in-services, and committees.
Participates as preceptor of students and new personnel as
needed.
Develops and maintains professional working relationships with
inter- and intra-departmental personnel.
Has thorough understanding of the Standards of Excellence handbook
and always abides by its expectations.
Completes all mandatory education programs within established
deadlines.
Participates in departmental training program to maintain skills,
knowledge, and abilities required of their scope of practice.
Upholds the CCH-EMS pillars of Accountability, Responsibility, and
Ownership.
Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care
and/or financial practices.
Complies with the hospital's Corporate Compliance Program
including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and
regulations, and CCH's policies and procedures.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High School graduate or GED equivalent and completion of accredited
paramedic education program. An associate degree or higher in
related field preferred.
Licensure
Wyoming Office of EMS issued paramedic license; National Registry
preferred.
Maintains paramedic license and knowledge of professional standards
related to protocols, clinical practice, skill proficiency,
staffing, and continuing education.
Certifications required
See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy and
Certifications/Education Requirements Policy.
PHTLS/BTLS, AMLS, PEPP course certifications preferred unless
required by State of WY OEMS for renewal of paramedic license.
Emergency Vehicle Operations Course - Ambulance certification
within 1 year of employment.
Experience
Minimum of 18 months EMT in addition to current paramedic
license.
Licensure as IEMT and other prior hospital healthcare experience
preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ability to maintain continuing education requirements and all
certifications and licenses as required (e.g. ACLS, PALS, CPI, CPR)
to maintain professional license.
Licensed professionals must strictly adhere to the ethical code of
their respective discipline.
Must be able to communicate effectively and coherently with members
of the public, other emergency response agencies, coworkers and
other healthcare employees, and patients and family members face to
face and using electronic communication devices.
Ability to use critical thinking to perform essential technical
job-related procedures.
Ability to drive an ambulance safely and defensively.
Ability to communicate needs and desires appropriately with
coworkers and supervisors.
Acts in an unbiased fashion towards others, while striving to
understand and respect the attitudes and beliefs of others.
Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions and react
in a positive, constructive manner when confronted with negative
situations.
Ability to take command of an emergency, and act decisively and
confidently without hesitation.
Simple and complex reading and writing.
Memorization, simple math skills.
Perception/computation, judgment, reasoning, decision making
analyzing and problem solving.
Must exercise considerable judgment and make critical time
sensitive decisions.
Computer knowledge including the ability to enter material into
electronic record. Ability to operate fax, computer, and copy
machine to perform the duties of the position.
The ability to demonstrate knowledge of developmental stages and
apply developmental theories/concepts when planning and
implementing care for the appropriate age of the patient. Ability
to maintain the appropriate level of knowledge and skills.
Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in the
following age groups:
Infant (Neonate to Age 1)
Pediatric (Age 1-11)
Adolescent (12-18)
Adult (19-64)
