Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY
Working in conjunction with the Maternal-Child Director, Clinical
Care Supervisor, and RN/LPN, the OB Tech performs a variety of care
needs for patients in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum and Newborn
Nursery, and Level 2 within the framework of the Wyoming Nurse
Practice Act and the National Patient Safety Goals.
The OB Tech assists the medical team with preparations for surgical
procedures and during the procedures. Prepares equipment,
instruments, supplies, operating room, and patients and ensure
sterile field. Coordinates preparation or disposal of specimens and
delivery to laboratory according to procedures. Maintains inventory
of sterile supplies. May assist in patient transport.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist with basic patient care and daily activities according to
patient plan of care, including ambulation, activities of daily
living, vital signs, and patient safety checks.
Scrubs for CS deliveries as needed after completing the educational
program for this role.
Maintains the Maternal Child surgical suite- inventory, ordering,
stocking equipment readiness.
Acts as a liaison and works collaboratively with the main OR Scrub
Techs and RN circulators for maintaining consistent OR standards
throughout CCH.
Demonstrates initiative in completing delegated tasks within scope
of practice.
Sets up delivery table as directed by the RN assures clean/sterile
technique as deemed necessary.
Will be available at time of labor and delivery to assist RN with
patient care needs.
Break down and clean up after delivery verifying that all
instruments are accounted for and sharps are disposed of
properly.
Set up newborn warmer for delivery and assure RN has rechecked
area.
Available for Transitional nurse at time of delivery if
necessary.
Clean and restock infant warmers, isolettes, and cribs as
necessary.
Appropriately handle bag blood and body fluids.
Performs newborn baby bath under the direction of the RN/LPN.
Performs hearing screens on newborns prior to discharge.
Assists healthcare provider with circumcision set up, procedure and
clean up.
Understands breastfeeding and bottle-feeding basics to support
families with their feeding preferences.
Available to bottle feed infants if necessary.
Can perform basic care tasks.
Clean and maintain breastfeeding pumps and supplies.
Maintain inventory par levels in Labor and Delivery, Nursery and
Postpartum both in stock areas and in patient rooms.
Attends to babies in the nursery upon request of families and is
dependent on department activity.
Observes patients and reports unusual conditions and/or reactions
to RN/LPN.
Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
Maintains a clean and safe environment.
Performs routine cleaning tasks.
Documents according to policy.
Alerts staff when supplies are needed and replenishes stock.
Performs Unit Secretary job duties as outlined in Unit Secretary

Coordinates tests and procedures, ensuring requirements of preps,
diets, and medications, and supplies, etc., are communicated.
Prioritizes the scheduling of multiple tests and procedures.
Schedules doctor's appointments and initiates appropriate follow-up
care and equipment, when appropriate.
Encourages cost savings for the department and organization.
Creates and maintains patient records. Records data, reports,
enters patient charges, reconciles charges, etc.
Assists with completion of admission and discharge process, and
maintenance of record for duration of stay.
Provides excellent customer service, demonstrates professionalism
and courteous telephone etiquette.
Demonstrates flexibility, positive interpersonal relations in high
volume, high traffic, and fast paced work
Complies with the hospital's Corporate compliance Program
including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and
regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care
and/or financial practices.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Completion of nurse's aide certification program. Graduation from
an accredited Surgical Technologist school preferred.
Licensure
Direct patient care license required
Certifications
CNA Certified in the State of Wyoming.
Must be certified in Healthcare Provider CPR.

20-hour Breastfeeding class within 12 months of hire preferred.
Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.
Experience
Candidate must have at least one year of acute care experience as a
CNA, or experience as an Obstetric Tech or Surgical Tech, or be
current nursing student with CNA certificate or first year of basic
nursing skills completed.
Completes scrub training within 12 months of hire. NRP within 12
months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ability to maintain continuing education requirements and all
certifications and licenses as required (e.g. ACLS, PALS, CPI, CPR)
to maintain professional license.
Licensed professionals must strictly adhere to the ethical code of
their respective discipline.
Good interpersonal skills needed in dealing with nursing staff,
physicians, patients, families, and other members of the health
care team.
Knowledge of basic patient care procedures.
Able to multi-task and think critically.
Demonstrates efficient time management and prioritization
skills.
Ability to handle emergency high-stress situations.
Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent
interruptions and under stressful conditions.
Analytical and reasoning skills with a high level of mental
concentration and memory.
Computer knowledge including the ability to enter material into
electronic record. Ability to operate fax, computer, and copy
machine to perform the duties of the position.
The ability to demonstrate knowledge of developmental stages and
apply developmental theories/concepts when planning and
implementing care for the appropriate age of the patient. Ability
to maintain the appropriate level of knowledge and skills.
Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in the
following age groups:
Infant (Neonate to Age 1)
Pediatric (Age 1-11)
Adolescent (12-18)
Adult (19-64)
Geriatric (Age 65 and older)
